Joyce Whilelaw composed original music celebrating the history and beauty of Oakland for the event's Review.  A fourteen year resident of Oakland, she chose local writers, also Oakland residents,  to create lyrics about a city they know well and love.  

She performed her music in a contemporary style using a group of professional opera singers.

As Musical Director for the entire event Joyce put together a full evening of music starting off with individual ethnic musical groups during the cocktail hour, a jazz quartet for the dinner hour, her Review, and capped off the evening with a full big band for the dance.
